Good. But not as good as "Alby Starvation". - By: O. Southwood, 07 Nov 2001
Something of a dissapointment to me, having read just one other Millar book "Milk, Sulphate & Alby Starvation", which I loved immensely. "Melody Paradise" has the same wonderfully dry humour, the same surreal quality, the same thought-provoking social observations. And of course the same rib-ticklingly funny events. Its a pleasant & touching read. But a slow one. The plot is wafer-thin & somewhat painfully drawn out. But, that said, its very entertaining & a fascinating insight into a fantasy world that actuallly exists! I think this book would make a great TV series.
It's Martin Millar so it's got to be all right - By: osbrus@wolverton65.freeserve.co.uk, 21 Nov 1999
This book is full of good jokes & Martin Millar's general good humour. It's set at a rural free festival with a suitably diverse & interesting cast of characters, plus non-stop rain & mud. To be honest, though, it seemed a bit too drawn-out, & far less well-plotted than say "Lux" or "Dreams of Sex & Stage-Diving". But it's still enjoyable, & quite different from anything else around.
Spaced-out neo-hippie travellers are people, too.... - By: , 13 Aug 1999
...with alll that entails. Millar's near-inability to let a sleeping stereotype lie shines, with the exception of a few over--quickly-sketched characters (and who are we to keep the author away from videogames any longer than necessary?) & one or two Living Caricatures (some of whom can be found in Real Life as well).

This is an exceptionallly good book; it only gets "4" because I reserve "5" for mind-breakingly good books.

To be read in a warm, dry, place.

Martin Millars back and he hasn't even been here before,,, - By: , 05 Jun 1999
Well observed & well written. The only author to succesfully write himself into a book without blowing it since Milan Kundera. Plenty of elves & Unicorns but where was Lux..?
Peace, love and understanding... - By: , 22 May 1999
Martin Millar. There's a good writer then! But for a while it seemed that there was a good writer without a publisher. Fortunately the best new publisher on the fiction circuit (IMP Fiction) found Millar, & his best novel to date is the result. Unicorns, free festivals & a fantastic parade of characters make for a joyous & touching read. If you're a Millar fan, or enjoy this book, check out Ian Winn's "Techno Pagan Octopus Messiah" from the same publisher - fantastic writers well presented.
