Customer Reviews

Perfect Intro - By: Sam Fur, 17 Aug 2008
I loved this book & it taught me everything I needed to know about starting to keep hens. Francine's relaxed approach to henkeeping was alll the encouragement I needed to get my first birds. Would highly recommend.
I feel ripped off - By: A. L. Brewer, 21 Aug 2006
I was very disappointed by this "book" - , & reading it felt as though I was reading a pupil's homework.
I just wish I had read the reviews before I purchased it. I certainly would not waste my money on other books in the series, & I think that the details shown to customers should somehow make it clear that this looks & feels like a home made book.
A complete amatuer production - By: , 20 Mar 2006
What a dissapointment. Not a book, a booklet that you would expect from a child at primary school.

No helpful dimensions, facts or anything else that would have been useful. I agree with the other readers who felt cheated.

All I want to do is raise 4 or 5 hens & wanted information on coup size, feeding habits, size of garden run etc.

If it were possible to award 0 out of 5, I would have.

Rip off - By: J. Brown, 22 Aug 2005
VERY DISAPPOINTED in this book. I wanted a reassuring, no-nonsense guide to keeping two or three hens in the garden & this "book" was recommended. Yes, it is reassuring & no-nonsense, but utterly useless for information - very amateur.

For example: she talks about having an 8m sq run for her chickens. But doesn't say how many chickens she has. 8m sq for two chickens means no-no for a smalll garden, but perhaps 2 chickens don't need as much room? I don't know, & this book won't tell you. She lists some suppliers at the end, no web addresses given. A line drawing of a coop - no dimensions - is this thing 20 feet long or the size of a shopping basket?

This "book" (rough paper with two staples, so not a book at alll) would only be good if you picked it up free in the pet shop - she does keep repeating that chickens are easy & fun as pets. But at about a fiver, it is a complete rip off.

Simple and Concise - By: Nigel, 02 Aug 2002
Francine Raymond's 'Keeping a few....' series is a smalll friendly collection of books which seek to provide a basic insight into the world of keeping hens, ducks & the like. Her writing is warm, friendly & does not lecture the newcomer with jargon. 'Keeping a Few Hens in your Garden' is geared towards the amateur enthusiast but also sits comfortably in the hands of a professional keeper. If you want intricate technicalities then perhaps you should look elsewhere. If you want a good read then buy this one & accompany it with Francine's other best seller 'The Big Book of Garden Hens'.
