Same problems still exist for gay youngsters - By: , 03 Mar 2002
It's very easy to believe the media hype that gay people are now alll well-adjusted & open about their sexuality. As someone who works on a gay helpline, I know this is not true. Many of the problems that tormented people in the sixties are still tormenting young gay people today. This is why How to be a Happy Homosexual is such a valuable resource. It hasn't lost sight of those young people who are still having problems coming out & making the adjustment. I always recommend it to those youngsters who are frightened & hesitant about what to do about their feelings.

Long may it remain in print.

Good Advice To Help You Understand Yourself - By: peter.allison@breathe.com, 04 Jul 2001
I read this book a few years ago when I was 20 & quite confused, I found that it offered excellent advice on alll sorts of issues. The bit that helped me the most was the chapter on 'coming out' to your parents, just after finishing the book I visited my parents & told them I was gay. If you're gay/think you're gay or you're just not sure - read this book & it'll help sort your head out.
Victim mentality spoils a good idea - By: , 11 Feb 2001
While this book is an excellent idea, the author tends to encourage readers not to combat bigotry but to recoil from it & be a 'victim'. This ruins what could have been an excellent book.
Every gay man should read this book - By: , 02 Jul 1999
This book has alll the information that a starting-out gay man could want, & best of alll it is reassuring & positive. It will help build the confidence of gay men who are unsure of their role & don't know how to make the best of their gay life. It's also very practical, & I particularly liked the thought-provoking chapter on ethics for the modern gay man. It's the kind of book every gay man should read.
