Basic but well written - By: R. P. Sedgwick, 17 Apr 2006
This reallly is a very basic chess openings book which barely skims the surface of an enormous subject. I found the simple openings like the Danish Defence were reasonably well covered & I've had some success with it largely on the strength of reading this book. However, for more complex openings like the Sicilian or Ruy Lopez it's little more than an introduction to the first few moves & one or two of the more popular lines. Good author, though, & I'd like to read some of his more advanced books.
Don't lose at the beginning! - By: , 02 Feb 2003
If you are a chess player who has problems with your opening, this book is right for you. The book was well writen & organised. Unlike other chess books, Winning Chess Opening provides plenty of diagrams while other books give you just series of moves. I should emphasise that this is a big difference.
To a master, explanation using the series of moves doesn't matter at alll BUT it does matter for the rest of us. However, however, I should say. Even though the book is so clear & not too expensive, it is not suitable for advanced players who are familiar with variety openings because it says about 20-30 most popular openings.
In conclusion, for beginners, it's perfect!
Not for intermidiate or advanced players - By: , 03 Jan 2000
I have bought this book to find some interesting openings ideas & quite deep analysis of some openings - but unfortunatelly this book is a very short review of openings with comments & advices for beginners. Most part of openings are presented in only one variation. I think thats good book for players who just started to lern openings, but if you have some experience is not for you!
Well Worth the Money!!! - By: , 16 May 1999
This book has alll the main essential openings. Before this book I only knew a couple of openings. Now I know over 25 strong openings that has increased my rating greatly. It goes through each move & why or why not its a good move this book is a must & for the price how can you go wrong???
