An excellent quick-reference book - By: William E Easson, 21 Aug 2002
Speaking from the perspective of general practitioners with a special interest in exotics, & with a roughly 60:40 split between dog&cat:exotics, our practice finds this book an excellent quick-reference book.

The authors of the various chapters are not alll the "usual suspects"; they are alll acknowledged authorities in their fields, but perhaps are not as well known. This brings a refreshing perspective to some of the chapters.

The editors have taken criticism of the previous edition on board & have produced a book which is as modern in its approach to these myriad species as the information it presents.

If you want teaching & depth, go to the more specialised books focusing on the species or order in question. For quick reference, this book is an important purchase for any practice & deserves to become the classic reference its predecessors became. Throw out those old editions!

Lacking detail in places - By: , 06 Jul 2002
As a busy smalll animal practioner, I anticipated a good, quick reference guide, with basic information/husbandry & some information on medicine & surgery. However, I was a little disappointed. I find the the book short on detail in many subject areas, though its breadth is impressive.
Essential! - By: , 17 Mar 2002
This book is an essential part of the library for any veterinary practise. It forms an excellent basis on which to manage the care of exotic animals ranging from rabbits & smalll furries to reptiles & birds. As a veterinary nurse I have found it an excellent reference for my portfolio & alll round very useful!
