Simply Fantastic for both novice and expert - By: Nick Clarkson, 03 Jun 2006
There are two books that I turn to time & time again with regards to this subject & this is one of them (The other being Adrian Slacks - Insect Eating Plants & How to Grow Them...also superb!). It is so entertaining & interesting to read that even if you are not planning to get involved in growing any of the carnivorous species I think you would still find something to enjoy in between the pages.
For the novice the information is so well laid out that you can easily pick out the pointers that you need to get started & successfully grow & care for your plant. For the expert there is also plenty to delve into especiallly regarding propogation & cultivation sections plus there are strong descriptions of each genus & subspecies (not just the most popular ones).
A must have book.
Excellent, Indepth, Easy To Read, Beautifully Illustrated Book - By: Dan R, 28 Apr 2006
This book is a masterpiece, practicallly a Bible for any Carnivorous Plant enthusiast. Here are 5 reasons why you should but this book if you havn't already.

1. Great layout ~ It is set in three parts (excluding a great introduction & more); The Basics Of Cultivation, Where to Grow Carnivorous Plants & The Plants themselves. Each part includes idepth chapters. Part 1; Soil, water, dormancy, feeding, pests & diseases + many more are included, Part 2; Greenhouse Conditions, Types, Terrariums/Tanks, Outdoors etc, & part 3 basciallly lists alll the types of plants including, the famous Venus Flytrap, Pitcher Plants, Sundews, Butterworts & many other less well known ones like Cobra Plants, Dewy Pines, Bladderwors & more (alll carnivorous).
Each of the plant chapter lists a well documented list of alll the species AND hybrids/crosses with advise/descriptions of each plant etc then explains the cultivation of that particular type of plant in general.

2. Great pictures ~ Many wonderful photos & diagrams of Carnivorous Plants in action!! All detailed, up-close & captioned. The sundew pics are a must see with their dazzling dew-like covered leaves!!

3. Easy to read. Peter D'Amato explains everything clearly & without using complicated words that someone new to Carnivrous Plants wouldn't understand without explaining them. There's also humour in his writing which will make you grin or chuckle to yourself now & again!

4. A great referance~ Once you have read it, it's easy to look back quickly for references of certain new plants you have bought etc Has a great Appendix & Index too.

5. Genuinely interesting unlike most gardening books you get. Gives background infomation & so much more.

There is a LOT more in it than I have mentioned above. This is definitely a must.

Thanks for reading,

Dan R
Superb! - By: D.S. Palmer, 03 Aug 2004
Having as a child, always been interested in carnivorous plants yet never 'getting my hands dirty', this book has provided invaluable advice; easy to read & understand with superb pictures & a wicked sence of humour casuallly sown amongs the rest of the seeds of knowledge. Each species seperated into their own chapters & then sub species, making reference simple.
An absolute must for anyone who is even just thinking about the topic.
