Basic but well structured - By: J. Finer, 13 Jun 2003
Although using relatively basic techniques the structure of the line system is it's strength. It covers basic techniques & then builds up to more advanced methods.
Detractors may claim that the techniques are too simplistic, but in self defense situations isn't it the basic, easy stuff that is most likely to work for you?
As an aside I also found the clipped military speak somewhat amusing & the expression on the faces of some of the illustrations particularly comical.
In conclusion, this is a system designed for ease of learning & of use, & a welcome structured approach to the subject
The whole point of a book on combat techniques... - By: , 02 Dec 2002
I have studied various combat systems both professionallly & as a leisure pursuit over a period of 20 years. This book is designed to give techniques that work, that aren't too fancy & will get the job done. All too often, people become discouraged when a book does not show lots of spectacular & elaborate methods involving bizarre postures & flashy kicks. The point being, these simply don't work in the real world. The principal for any situation where a book of this type would offer guidance is to get in hard & fast, using simple but devastating methods to incapacitate the attacker, & to get out as quickly as possible. It's far better to have a handful of techniques at your disposal that actuallly work, than lots of ornate techniques that don't. Martial arts are a completely different subject to applied personal defence.
This Book RULES!!! - By: David, 30 Oct 2002
This book is one of the clearest instructional books I have ever read. It gives clear instructions & diagrams in alll the pages. The techniques drawn & described are easily carried out by a person. It is just a truly great book & I don't think any other formof book could be matched & it definatily out ranks Tao od Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee.
Poor - By: , 22 Aug 2002
I was full of expectations when I ordered this book. I reallly thought it would show an excellent fighting system. Instead it showed 3rd rate Jiu Jitsu, as well as the most obvious things to do with a knife. The unarmed techniques are the type where the attacker would have to stand still in order for you to implement them. The armed techniques could have been written by a child. Poor.
Very basic - By: , 07 Mar 2001
I was expecting quite a bit from this book. I did not get it. It is very basic, offering a few basic modified ninjutsu techniques, but basicallly this book is just a repeat of one fighting technique & finishing move.
In theory it could prove helpful, but there is nothing new you probably don't already know. The knife fighting is very rudimentry & again uses a simple block slash the throat method.
