This is a wonderful, gentle tale perfect for the preschool child. As the children play with their borthers & sisters in the woods, they see their landscape change around them as the seasons come full circle. The paintings are charming with gorgeous wondland scenes & happy children playing. They alll have roles within their family & respect & help their parents. The emphasis of family & nature in this story helps make this book special. There is a strong moral grounding without it being overstated. Nice antidote to the negatives within our modern society.

There are 2 tiny bits in the story that might need to be adapted for younger/reallly sensitive children - a viper being killed & dragged away by the children becomes an exhausted naughty snake for my 4 yr old & the boys crying after being bitten with ants receives a couple of tweaks! However, the lovely pictures & gentle tale still make this a worthwhile addition to any young child's bookshelf.
