Both Jung & Graham Greene thought this was a great book. It used to be in Penguin "Modern Classics". You can read it either just as a rather surreal fantasy, or if you consider Read's other writing (autobiography, poetry, art criticism) it is itself a work of art from the same context as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Paul Nash etc. For more insight see the chapter in "Herbert Read Reassessed" (Liverpool Univeristy Press).
