A phot-doc of Blondie's career - By: G. Whyman, 11 Apr 2007
The more cynical out there might consider that Roberta Bayley is cashing in on the renewed interest in Debbie Harry & Blondie by bringing out a book of her photos of the band in their glory days. Actuallly this is a fascinating book that tells the story of Blondie in pictures rather than words (the text is very minimal) in an almost photo-documentary style. As an employee of Peter Leeds - Blondie's now infamous first manager - Bayley had a close attachment to the band & many of the photos show the band in situations where much of the press were restricted, like sound checks & backstage. Unlike the Mick Rock collection that was published a couple of years ago, her photos are largely informal showing members of the band hanging out & relaxing. Strangely enough Debbie looks far more allluring & sexy when captured in natural surroundings rather than the posed shots we're more used to seeing. The photo in which she looks frozen outside a Wimpy decked out in Union flags somewhere in Britain is absolutely priceless! If you love Blondie this book is indispensable.
