The life & times of Nicolas II. will remain properly alawys of major interest. The dreadful murder of the Imperial family, the Anastatia mystery & the controversial re-discovery of the Imperial remains & burial have kept Russia's last Czar firmly in the public mind & interest. The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg & Hermitage Amsterdam ( yes, there is an Herimitage Museum in Amsterdam - www.hermitage.nl) are in a unique position to show the life of the last Emperor & his family in pictures. The pictures (paintings & fotos) are wonderful & reflect Imperial spendour. Particuarly I liked the portrait of Empress Alexandra Feodorova by Boraresvki from 1907(see page 48). However, I had to smile most when seeing the pictures of the toys - pluche bear, dog & cat - reallly cute. The texts are informative & fitting. All in alll, this is a book to be enjoyed.
