Gears and gear cutting cuts through the mystery - By: , 04 Jan 2003
Having been toying for some months with the idea of trying to make a clock it was necessary to find out more about the gears & cogs. This little book is a pleasure to read. It is quite clearly written by a craftsman but in terms that a layman can easily understand. It is possible to pick it up & read it from cover to cover or use it as a very handy reference manual.
It describes different forms of gearing, worm gears, bevel gears & gives simply mathmatical formulae for calculating the necessary dimensions. All technical terms are well described & there are even sections on making multi toothed & fly gear cutters. It is packed with line drawings & black & white photos & at 135 pages should be a welcome addition to both the rank amatuer & more experienced workshop hand. Highly recommended.
