Altman is obviously an expert on genre, especiallly that of film. As a leading authority & author of many books on the subject, he wastes no time diving into the complexities of genre definition & genre classification. The book whilst extremely well written reads more like an academic thesis than a book to simplify & explain the subject. Without a good command of the english language, knowledge of the subject or an avid interest in this area, readers are likely to find the book hard going. Possibly an invaluble text book or work aid, but unless you are searching for the definitive guide to genre in the film media, this probably is not the book for you.
