Gospel According to Matthew - By: Mr. J. Featherstone, 31 Dec 2005
This gospel commentary easily hits the mark. It is lengthy yet concise, & bias yet precise. His bias slant is by no means a controversial one, but points out Matthew’s great literary skill. The introduction is one of the most useful & usable I have found, & is divided into clear sections for easy reading & research. The actual notes are quite conservative in content, & quite cleverly tip toes through the maze that is Gospel priority & Q theories. I would never say that just one Gospel commentary is enough to have on your shelf, but you’re unlikely to find a better starting point than this.
Excellent introduction to the gospel of Matthew - By: , 05 Mar 2001
France sets forth a very clear yet detailed introduction to the background & the content of Matthew's gospel. France stresses the importance of appreciating Matthew's literary skill in his use of sources & presentation of material. Particularly, Matthew's "Fulfilment motif" is important for understanding Matthew's portrayal of Jesus - it shapes his use of the OT & the structure of his gospel.

In discussing the date & Authorship of the gospel, France ultimately remains agnostic. However, he shows that there is no reason for the tracitional dating & authorship to be necessarily rejected.

Coming from a conservative standpoint, France engages intellectuallly with a diverse range of views & put forward strong arguments to support his conclusions.
