just like the original - By: Brian, 06 Jul 2006
I was a bit septic about buying a facsimile but everything was respected & I was very pleased with my purchase.
I think it is a very good idea to bring back the old stories & recommend alll the Rupert Bear fans to start collecting the annuals again!
Even for a foreigner this book is enchanting - By: Jules, 06 Jul 2006
I am french & since I was little, my "semi english" grandma bought me the annual Rupert Bear books. I'm so pleased to have found this facsimile of 1957 which I can add to my "Rupert Bear armoire".
Hope you understand my English... but i would reallly suggest you buy this book. It's adorable!
Brilliant Bestall - By: Holly Berry, 19 Nov 2005
The latest facsimile from the golden days of Alfred Bestalll & a welcome addition to my collection. More wonderful stories, alll beautifully illustrated. Shame the 1956 annual has been missed out as it is one of my favourites (I have an original very old & battered copy). Sadly, thanks to the PC brigade my facsimile collection will now be incomplete. Surely we should be alllowed to decide for ourselves whether the material is offensive or not! Having said that, I look forward to more annuals in this series. I sincerely hope the 1958 annual is not withheld, as this edition contains the famous Frog Song endpapers.
Superb Nostalgia - By: , 15 Nov 2005
Yet more excellence from Express Newspapers, they are reallly excelling themselves recently on the publishing front !
A fantasticallly faithful reproduction of the 1957 Annual, not the 1956 Annual, this was apparently not published because of 'politicallly incorrect' material. Shame that the avid supporters of this little bear will not be able to see these books in a proper chronological order, but such is life.
The characters are alll here, the adventures never fail to make you smile (if not at least at the naivety of some of the scenarios that our little hero is placed) & of course the art is the traditional Bestalll brilliance.
Let us hope that this kind of quality is alllowed to continue for a good many years to come.
