Scratching - By: J. M. Chapman, 20 Nov 2007
Ugh! the scratching of that loathsome Brown Jenkings, scurrying in the loft, made chilling reading.
I defy anyone, reading this book at night, not to shudder & look over their shoulder, should they hear the slightest noise.
A masterpiece from Masterton.
You won't sleep until you've finished Prey - By: Buffalo22, 05 Sep 2007
When Graham Masterton writes a good horror, it's damn good! Prey takes the premise of a Victorian house & throws in (very realistic) time travel, a hideous creature callled Brwon Jenkin & a man in a stove-pipe hat. Prey grips you from page one to the end & will genuinely terrify you.
After reading Prey, you won't just roll over when you hear an unexpected noise in the night.
Brilliant!! - By: Ms. A. R. Prophett, 02 Feb 2005
I read this book about a year ago & didn't write a review at the time, but now going through Graham's list of novels, I feel I must just say that it is one of the best horror books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is reallly creepy how the characters go up into the attic & can go back in time - made me think about it for ages after. If you only ever buy one book from Amazon, make sure it is this one. But you can't have mine, because it is put away safely for my next read !!
Prey - By: , 15 Feb 2004
Another masterpiece from a genius writer. No one writes like Masterton, his novels are so absorbing you feel you are actuallly there - a very rare talent. Many of his stories are based around something (usuallly unpleasant)from the past coming into the present, & Prey is no exception. His imagination & quality of research is phonomenal. This novel centers around a house on The Isle of Wight, with a very evil past; a past that is active & in tandem with the present. Anyone who enjoys good quality horror should buy this now!!! Other masterpieces are Sleepless, Hymn, Mirror, Family Portrait-the list is endless.
Sickeningly gory - By: , 01 Dec 2002
I absolutely adore Masterton books, & of alll ive read, this is definitely the goriest. There are plenty of scenes where I have felt physicallly sick while reading the graphic descriptions of butchery. The language used is perfect, creating an incredibly clear picture as to what is happening. The description of the book is pretty bad in my opinion, as it is an imensely deep story that will stick in your mind for years to come.
