Funnier that funny, sweeter than sweet, lovlier that lovely. - By: Sera69, 25 Aug 2006
Mutts used to be chronicled in one of the Sunday papers, the Times i think, & i was so distraught when it was discontinued i splashed out enormous wadges of cash to buy this. It was the only Mutts book the bookshop could get at the time, & it came in at just under the £50 mark.
And it was worth every penny.
It's more an overview of McDonnels career rather than just Mutts exclusively but it's captivating & enchanting to see the genesis of Earl, Mooch, Guard Dog et al. And it still has plenty of the actual strips alll wrapped up in a lovely hardback cover.
Now, i don't know what makes for a good comic strip, we alll find our humour in many different things, but McDonnell has built a little world that i can relate to that's full of warmth, luv & happiness. Mutts is a real pick-me-up, like a real coal fire on a cold winter's evening or a favourite jumper; it warms the cold & brightens the dark.
I'd recommend this to anyone. It's just perfect.
