Dead On - By: , 30 Jul 1999
Even if you have no interest in the entertainment industry at alll, the book is worth reading. I have gotten better insight about personal relationships in this book than in any book devoted to the purpose. Just two points: Shyness is wanting to be bold, & one of the biggest reasons to have friends is to have someone to compete with.

My acting teacher is actuallly using this book as our textbook (undergrad intermediate theatre class)! It isn't only guidelines for auditioning, it is a guideline for acting. The book explains how to look at a character in a way that I have never thought. My acting has improved incredibly because of this book.
Shurtleff's book is great... so great I became a director - By: , 17 Oct 1998
Michael Shurtleff is one of few, in the vast ocean of resources available out there, that reallly knows his stuff. Don't waste your time with other books. So great an affect his book had on me, I quit the profession of acting & become a director. Someday I'll resurface as an actor but in my own films & in my own way. Cheers
right on the money!!!! - By: , 28 Sep 1998
This book will not only give you the insight & the know-how on how to get it together, but it's chock full of humorous anecdotes & phrases. The great thing is that not only can you use these techiniques towards acting, but they also work EXTREMELY well for job interviews & life as a general rule. It is more of a Real Life 101 & how to deal with directors (i.e bosses, teachers) It serves a multi-faceted purpose. Every actor/actress should own two copies (in case somebody steals one).
This is a wonderful tool for EVERY actor! - By: , 27 Jun 1998
I am a tech but due to class requirements, I have to act as well. I read it when I first got it (several years ago) & I'm reading it again & discovering things I had missed before. Even if you are not becoming an actor or reallly studying acting, it gives perspective on not only acting but human behavior as well. It's wonderful reading no matter how many times you read it!
