May not be the only book you will need - By: R. Barnett, 14 Feb 2006
This is not a book to buy if you are looking for a quick guide to setting up a basic filemaker app. Essentials are lost almost as footnotes. You are not guided through basic processes & references tend to be circular without providing the guts of what you are looking for. It may work well for some, viz previous reviewer, & it's weight would imply that it is comprehensive. May work well as a reference but in my veiw the 4 authors could have done with a good editor to pull it together.
The one to buy! - By: , 17 Aug 2005
I started with Omnis 3 many years ago because it was the only available cross-platform (Mac/Windows) relational database for ordinary mortals. I stuck with Omnis (and its descendants) because of the huge learning curve involved in moving to alternative programs, but have finallly made the change to Filemaker 7 because of its ease of use & because of this book, which is a perfect complement to the program.

'Using Filemaker 7' is absolutely the book to buy to learn how to get started & how to get the most out of Filemaker - it's comprehensive, well written, well laid out & has excellent real-world examples. Just as important is the quality of the index, which is vital for a reference book of this length & scope. I also bought "Learn Filemaker Pro 7'; it's a shorter book which works well as a step-by-step recipe-type work for beginners, but of the two 'Using Filemaker' is the better for dealing with problems & difficulties. Highly recommended.
