Greed has finally killed it off - By: Dr. David J. Mossley, 25 Jun 2008
With this latest corruption of Dungeons & Dragons, Wizards of the Coast have finallly killed off what was left of the true origins of the game still clinging on in the 3.5 version. Ditching a whole host of character classes (druids & bards in particular) & some popular races as basic player options, stripping away the cosmology & alignment system, making the combat system even more computer friendly, Wizards have shown the true depths to which they are prepared to sink to make a fast buck & fleece inexperienced players. Do not buy this if you want to understand what made D&D great.
Much improved - By: T. J. H. Whitbrook, 20 Jun 2008
High production values & a solid & interesting ruleset. I love the new art. An impressive level of improvement over the 3.5 ruleset, combining a higher number of options with a great deal more simplicity.

As a side note, at the time of writing you get a much better deal buying the individual books from amazon than this slipcase set.
4th edition saves the game - By: Michael Davey, 20 Jun 2008
I had tired of running games under third edition some years ago mainly because it was a lot of hard work to DM for characters over 10th level. I went & played Savage worlds for a few years which is a lot easier to run. I wasn't going to buy 4th edition writing it of as a corporate money grab but I got a chance to play in a demo game & i had a lot of fun. I have now run it a few times & my players & I have had a good time. sure their are problems with it, familiar races & classes are missing but it is so much more easier to run & prepare for & my players are enjoying the increase in options in combat & role playing scenes. Its a nice tactical wargame with added roleplaying. The Skill challlenge rules reallly encourage roleplaying.
