Now I'm confused... - By: S. Bentley, 08 Jun 2008
Universe X follows on from Earth X & is set in a universe alternate to the real Marvel universe. Jim Kreuger & Alex Ross manage to tie together everything in the Marvel Universe so that it makes sense, even though it was built by diverse hands.

In the future mankind has been mutated into supermankind. Children are no longer born & being a superhero means little. Reed Richards has developed a method for undoing the mutation but many seek to stop him, including the Tong of Creel who are trying to reassemble the Absorbing Man who was shattered after he killed the Avengers. Meanwhile, we learn that Mephisto is responsible for creating endless alternate realities in order to maintain his own existence & Captain Marvel is working to defeat Death.

It's a heady brew & if you like the big picture then Universe X is great. But there are a few leaps in logic in the story as heroes figure things out without evidence to back it up, & that makes it a little confusing. There are also some horrendous typos in there too. There's good art in there from Dougie Braithwaite & other hands.

If I have a complaint it's that the writers fail to reallly bring the story back to a personal level, & I'm still not clear on why Mephisto was doing what he was doing.
Mighty Marvel Universe in X amount of trouble! - By: , 29 Sep 2004
This is the second & final of the Universe X books, carrying on from where the first one finished with the revelation that Mr Church is, in fact, the devil in disguise.

Universe X (Volume 2)focuses on the ongoing quest of the young Mar-Vell as he collects the most powerful objects in the Marvel universe, but is alll as it seems?

I thouroughly enjoyed reading the story & the artwork is fantastic, a must have for any Marvel fan.
