Still quite a good book but... - By: Mr N, 03 Oct 2007
Having used the 'Lammle' book to pass the 640-507 & now the 640-801 exam I have a lot of admiration of what has been acheived with this book BUT...
Like a previous comment, too many typos (not alll shown in errata on website either) & not just alphabetical - techincal data (e.g. wrong ip address in a 'show ip route' display). This should have been avoided especiallly since a majority of the text was from the '507' exam book anyhow.
Apart from the typos more should have been done in the way of supernetting rather than a few examples. I also feel that switching could do with a more detailed approach with regards to commands. The CD which came with my book didn't have the NAT & OSPF appendix which was stated in the text but downloaded the PDFs from the Sybex website.
Overalll a good read but could be better - especiallly for those new to the subject who may take alll text to be correct.
With the exam to change to 640-802 this book won't be sold much anyhow but I hope lessons have been learned for the new 'Lammle' book.
Good but with too many typos - By: C. SMITH, 06 Jul 2007
Quite a well-written book, which covers alll the necessary topics (with the possible exception of NAT). However, there are too many typos, both in the text & in the written exercises. It is hard enough to study for an exam without being unsure whether difficulties you are having are due to your own lack of understanding, or to errors in the text.
Covers all the bases for CCNA - By: R. MULLINS, 01 Feb 2007
This book is a brillant read. As a Computer Science degree graduate some of the topics in this book I have done before, but the book is written so that it is easily understood for beginners & more advanced readers.
There are lots of practice questions & the CD comes with bonus exams that will help with topic revision. Would recommend checking out the CCNA CertSim demo that comes with the CD as this contains some CCNA simulation examples as well as multiple choice questions that are formatted exactly in the same way as they appear in the exam.
I passed by reading this book!! - By: D. Ranson, 13 Jul 2006
I found this book invaluable for passing the exam, I had failed twice using the Wendell Odom books & needed something that was more direct & to the point, containing alll the information that you need & no waffle.
I passed by reading this book!! - By: S. Phares, 03 Jun 2006
Yes, as the heading says. This is the only book I have used to pass CCNA. The NAT/PAT are not covered in great details but so in the CCNA exam it self. The human makes the whole subject enjoyable, it's easy to understand this book especiallly if you new to Networking. The only improvements I could think of are questiongs at the end of every chapter. They should be more than 20, & a lot more exam focus.
