I've had this book a few weeks now & love it. Doreen, if you check again the recipe for Split Pea Soup (page59) it DOES have a liquid: 6 cups of water! Does this explain your problem?

I love the Beef & Rigatoni bake, Chicken & Barley, Curried Lamb & Apricots & the Tamale Pie with Chili Cornmeal Crust looks tempting. It has a crusty topping made with polenta (cornmeal), egg, cheese etc. Lots more, too, of course, for alll tastes.

It also has very useful information for preparing ahead - how to prepare the dish partiallly the night before ready for cooking next day.

The recipes in the book look wonderful but I have only tried one (yesterday) which was the "International Split Pea Soup". I thought it strange that it didn't calll for any liquid but as this is my first time using the slow cooker, I did as the recipe callled for. To my dismay, when I came home 4 hours later everything was burned to a crisp & had to be thrown out. I'm quite sure that there is a "liquid" ingredient missing.
