Easy-to-use advice on finance - By: Rolf Dobelli, 14 Mar 2007
Women have disadvantages when it comes to handling money, says author David Bach. Having been brought up to believe that finances are a man's responsibility, some women don't even know their family's income. Although his book is addressed to "smart women," Bach's goal setting & investing guide is helpful to men, also. He does love his bullet points & numbered lists: in addition to the "nine steps" of the subtitle, there are "three myths," "ten biggest mistakes" & more. But, the lists help make his recommendations memorable & easy to use. Bach implies that he is revealing revolutionary techniques, but actuallly his advice is basic wisdom that emphasizes values & adopting sensible practices. We recommend this book to you if you find it easier to talk about sex, religion & politics than about money or if you're only making minimum monthly payments on your credit card - so try not to get turned off by Bach's ever-wise grandmother (is she for real?) or his constant promotion of his books, trademarked seminars & other services.
Very American-based, but still helpful - By: L. Duran-Camfferman, 02 May 2004
If you don't live in the US & don't have a 401k (pension), then some of this book might be difficult to read. But if you can read past that, then David Bach still has some valuable tips for you. Of course, most of it is sound logic: to get rich, the answer is (just) not in getting more money, but in spending less money. Simple, right? But David shows you some very easy tricks to make this actuallly happen, & save a smalll fortune in the end.

By the way ladies... any idea how your household finances are doing? I do actuallly, & from what I hear from women around me, so do they. The assumption David makes that women leave the finances to their husbands, seems a little outdated. We're getting more & more into stocks, savings, investments & mortgages.

Good luck with becoming a millionairess!

Women can talk about mutual funds over lunch, too! - By: , 29 Jul 1999
I'm a boomer & an artist, & I steadfastly avoid reading "how-to" books about where I "should-be" in my savings. Debentures sounds so much like dentures, that I steer clear of the whole Walll Street world. But David Bach's book, Smart Women Finish Rich, not only penetrated my "artistic curtain," but actuallly changed my woeful banking habits. His book is clear & precise, underscoring how any woman can be rich, regardless of salary. Kind of "it's-about-savings-stupid" love tap to the walllet side of your brain. Not only do I have an idea what mutual funds, bonds, stocks, T-Bills & T-Notes are, I've put together, for the first time in my life, a portfolio. And it doesn't stop there. Bach writes clearly about health & life insurance policies, & I'm currently reexamining my own. How can a person who comparison shops for canned tomatoes not do the same for insurance & pocket the difference? If you need help getting started on a savings program, don't miss this wise financial primer, written by a guy who handles portfolios worth more than half a billion dollars each year.
A must-read for women who want to live well - By: , 27 Jul 1999
I was astounded at how much I gained from this book: not only have I been able to better define >why< I want to be financiallly secure, but I have been given the hope that even on a low salary, I can still make a difference in my way of living & increase my security for the future. David Bach presented alll his ideas very effectively & thoroughly. Reading (and implementing) the strategies presented will forever change my life. The best part is, anyone can do it!
