Change and loss - two inevitable features of human life - By: Brida, 23 Jun 2007
I bought this a couple of years ago whilst doing a certificate course in counselling skills. Within this area, change & loss are an integral part of what you hear within the counselling room, so I was eager to find a book that could give me more insight into these two complex concepts. When I first received it, I think I was slightly let down - I was hoping that it would examine change within a person as they progress through life & develop as a reaction to life's experiences; this is not exactly what this book does. Perhaps, I was a little misled by the title.
However, I recently turned to this book again. Once more, it was because of my studies within the field of counselling. However, this time, I took more time to read & appreciate what the book is about.
As a study of loss - & so the change that occurs from that - it is a very good companion. I think, if you have recently lost someone or something that meant a great deal to you, you would do well to turn to this book as a help through your difficult times. In a sense, it is very much about how to cope with external changes or losses. The only way this book could have been improved would be for there to be something on the idea of how to deal with change & loss WITHIN yourself.
An insightful book, one that Buddhists & non-Buddhists can easily work with & take something away with them.
