Essential reading! - By: Dean C. Leeks, 05 Sep 2007
I don't usuallly write reviews but this was one product I had to make an exception for. To start off with your getting a lot of bang for buck with this book, there are 456 pages of pure Pokemon info covering lots of different areas of the game.

Such as the complete (alll 490 Pokemon) national pokedex (I'll talk about this in more detail in a minute), post game scenarios, a capture guide including useful tips on breeding & evolution, lots of different Pokemon data look-up tables including detailed stats & info on every move in the world of Pokemon & detailed maps helping you to catch the rarest of the in game Pokemon including those famous legendry Pokemon!

But as I stated above probably the best bit of this book (and I'm not saying the rest of the stuff is useless at alll) is the Pokedex.

For every single Pokemon (that's 490 if you've forgotten already) it tells you which version of Pokemon you need to catch it in (if it's in diamond or pearl it will tell you what route you can find it on), how to evolve it (if it can evolve) how the Pokemon weighs up in terms of the six abilities (HP, Attack, Defence, Special Attack, Special Defence & Speed), every single move the Pokemon can learn (whether it's a move learned through levelling up TMs or through breeding) & finallly the alll important types of category it fallls into (e.g. Fire, Grass, Water etc.).

I know it sounds like I'm from Nintendo trying to drum up sales but I'm telling the truth if you own Pokemon Diamond or Pearl this book is essential! Not only does it save you hours upon hours worth of game time it also guarantees you'll play the game more as there'll be loads of things that you'll discover that you won't have achieved through normal game play. The best bit is you'll also stand a very good chance of completing the pokedex which is virtuallly impossible through regular game play or looking up smalll bits of data at a time through unreliable sources on the internet.

However this is a review so I better point out the book's worse points.

As I mentioned before if the Pokemon can't be located in diamond & pearl then it only refers you to which other version of Pokemon you will need to get it, not the route. It would have been handy to know where in each version you have to look (like it does for the Pokemon which appear in diamond & pearl). It also doesn't have any guide for the game up to the elite four. That can be found in the Volume 1, this book is Volume 2 & therefore geared up for people who have obtained alll the gym badges & defeated the elite four.

Apart from those two points I can't reallly fault it, (unless you count being too big to be able to carry around with your DS!).

Honestly buy this book you won't regret it, I certainly haven't.
