An excellent novelisation of the interactive PC puzzle game! - By: , 01 Dec 1999
If any of you ever played the interactive puzzle game of the same title before, you'd probably think that it was a bit hard to follow the story. This novelisation - by the original screenplay writer of the game - fills in alll the gaps and, at last makes sense of the bits that weren't explained in the game. It's a reallly effective horror novel & follows in the tradition of James Herbert's 'Haunted', to some extent - people in a spooky old house, etc. Even if you haven't played the game, I highly recommend reading The 7th Guest just for the storyline itself, in which we learn of six guests that are invited one night to the house of the reclusive toy maker, Henry Stauf, who disapeared after mysterous deaths of children that had brought his incredibly popular toys. The guests are subjected to terrifing supernatural forces within the house & complex puzzles of the Stauf's own making. By solving these puzzles they slowly learn, what they must do, in regard to the unknown seventh guest, to gain their hearts inner most desires... It's highly original & very likeable, apart from that it jumps around a bit, in chronological terms most of the time, which is a bit of a let down.
