The narrator of th story is a thirty-something year old black university lecturer who is seduced by one of his (Latino) students. He gets drawn into his lover's life, including a slightly criminal element. He feels he is being used, wants to break off the relationship but something about his lover keps drawing him back. The book has a tragic ending making it both poignant & memorable.
