Beautiful and incredibly interesting - By: B. Hamilton, 28 Oct 2008
This book is just what you need if you have an interest in the . . interesting bits . . of history. It's FULL of reallly beautiful imagery & makes you wonder how they crammed so much written information in with alll of the pictures.
The book is designed in spreads - so each double page spread is a specific period in history. In other words, you can dip in & out of this book as you like & there is no need to read it from front to back. It starts with 6 million year old skulls - just to let you know how much history is involved here.
The book is pretty weighty - & about the length/width of a laptop. The front cover is horrible compared to what's inside. I'm not a heavy reader myself but find this book very easy to read - & enjoyable!
THE BEST OF IT'S TYPE!! - By: Adam Jackson, 09 Aug 2008
A beautiful book, with superb text & illustrations - possibly the most comprehensive of it's type!
From the Stone Age to the Vikings right up to 9/11; the DEFINITIVE History encyclopedia - & a MUST!!

History: The Definitive Visual Guide
I had the luck to buy from an "bricks & mortar" seller & can say, in my opinion, the book is as good as the reviews above suggest it.
It covers a wide range of civilisations (including Asian, African, South American & lesser-known Indian ones) in a concise & clear manner. It covers the salient points in a clear & engaging manner, makes you want to know more & places each civilisation in geographical, topological & cultural context.
Although offering an overview of every civilisation, it is more a taster book than a detailed study of any civilisation. Great starting point for an overview of civilisation & their roles in history.

I also watched Loose Women today & am going to buy the book. It sounds brilliant!
