A poor ending to what had been a great series - By: Nicholas Tindall, 02 Sep 2008
I find myself largely in agreement with A. K. L. Pryde.

I normallly dont give 1 star for something I actuallly finish, but this doesn't deserve more.

I may not quite concur to the same extent in alll his comments, but thay do alll have vailidy for me.

I think I can best some up my feelings for the book as: written by someone who has less talent; who hadn't taken the trouble to read the previous books, but had only a precee of each story to work with. But, most importantly, who didn't care.

The ending of the book was particularly poor; i found the stories over before they had begun in alll the series, but in the first three they were enjoyable - the first book is particularly well done.

Quite simply this book should not have been published & it will make me very wary of buying any further books; not saying I wont, just saying I'll be unlikely to buy a book without first having read it.
well written - By: Zethre, 12 Jul 2008
I thought this was very well written, certainly up to Misty's usual caliber. Unlike the first reveiewer I shan't give away any plot spoilers, but I thought it was worth noting to any fans of the first book, that this one is well worth reading, as is the rest of the series, Joust, Alta & Sanctuary.
A disappointment - By: A. K. L. Pryde, 11 Oct 2006
I love Misty's writing & have reallly enjoyed this series, however this book just doesn't quite fit. To me it seemed like she had a number of loose ends left over from the previous books & felt that she better tie them up.

This book starts with what you would expect, the rebuilding & reforming of the nations of Alta & Tia, as well as the Jousters & Priests out in Sanctuary & yes the Jousters decide to move to the cliff city which they calll Aerie & of course Kiron (once know as Vetch)is the leader of this new city, ok so far so good. This is when things take a turn for the worst, for us readers that is.

A border village disappears & suddenly there is a whole new country, that we never knew existed but apparently was there & an ancient enemy alll along and, wouldn't you know, THAT was where alll those wizards/former sea witches came from? This totallly changed what we had been lead to believe in the previous 3 books. Now I wouldn't have minded this break in continuity, except the tie-in was poor, the character dialogue wooden & unrealistic, & we reallly learn nothing important to add to our understanding of this great world & its characters.

I was heart-broken!!!

I wanted to throw the book away or across the room, anything. I kept on reading, hoping it would get better. It didn't. Favourite major characters from the previous books had bit parts, & there was no development of the characters at alll. In fact I think the best thing we can alll do is forget this book ever happened & get Misty to write the book we ALL know she can & should have written.
