Girls aged 20-30 You must read this book! - By: Summer, 26 May 2008
I clicked with this book from the first page, I could relate to the main character. I usuallly struggle to read books & I always get stuck around the half way mark, usuallly reading a chapter a night...well this book I started at 9pm & I had to turn the light out at 3am, as soon as I woke up I was reading again until I finished it. I haven't read any of the authors other books, it made me laugh, cry & in sections it was reallly steamy. I always take this book on my hols in case the weather is bad. A very good read.
Disappointing - By: Kia Abdullah (Author), 25 Apr 2006
I was meaning to read Venus Envy for a very long time after having read two other novels by Louise Bagshawe but I was disappointed. The heroine was self-pitying, helpless & even stupid on occasion, failing to see things that were so obviously in front of her face. One felt little compassion, sympathy or respect for her. The blurb says that Alex "decides it's time to put on her best TDO (Top Designer Outfit) & give Venus a run for her money" but this never reallly happens. She makes half-hearted attempts at making things right but never reallly sorts herself out.

It was a decent read but I simply did not warm to the main character. If you are after a good Louise Bagshawe novel, I would recommend Career Girls (very good, much less "fluffy") or Tuesday's Child (very similar plotlines to Venus Envy but is better).

What a book!!! - By: , 02 Aug 2004
This book, I have to say, is brilliant. I took it on holiday to Greece with me & my boyfriend was going mad because I couldn't put it down.
I am a massive fan of Bagshawe but this book disappointed - By: , 31 Jan 2002
The reason Louise Bagshawe is one of my favourite authors is because her characters are strong, balllsy women who are not afraid to go alll out to get what they want. I usuallly find her books very inspiring & they always make me want to make the most of myself to acheive my ambitions (Well who wouldn't want the lifestyles her heroines have!)
However, I found this book to be her weakest effort yet. Alex spends most of the time feeling sorry for herself, waiting to be rescued by her knight in shining armour & I didn't find the other characters very believable either. I did enjoy Venus Envy & it was very funny in places but I much prefer her usual style of writing.
I must say I was relieved she did not carry on in the same style as Venus Envy as her next 2 books A Kept woman & When she was Bad are fantastic.
