The story reads like any other Richard Laymon novel but suffers from being far too short. The bulk of the book is about the main character sneaking his way around the beast house with not a great deal happening, just relying on his own fear to scare the reader. It is only in the last few pages that the beast is introduced & they are described in about 2 paragraphs & that is it! This should have belonged as the main story in one of Laymon's collections. It took 2 hours to read & I was ultimately disappointed. I actuallly suspect it was a book Laymon started but died before it was finished, hence the long build up & lacklustre finale. By alll means read it, but do not pay full price.

Having read everything Laymon's written & having loved the first three Beast House books I was extremely dissapointed by this book. It doesn't even have an ending. It think its a possability that Laymon passed away before finishing this book & it was released anyway as it just stops in the middle of no where. Never thought I'd say this about a Laymon book but avoid this book at alll costs.

Another brilliant book from Laymon that I absolutely could not put down. people have been complaining about the length - but surely a 160 page book from Laymon is much better than no Laymon book at alll?
I reallly enjoyed this book, it was suspencefull & as usual with Laymon books, the main charactor(s) was very likeable.
I would definatly recomend this to fans of Richard Laymon especiallly if you like the Beast House series (you can read this without reading the other three first, though
The Truth Inside the Lie... - By: osullivanbr, 01 Feb 2008 Although this book was quite a compelling read, it did sadly not hold true to the fundamental principle of horror writing, which is, as Stephen King put it, "The Truth Inside the Lie". What is meant by that, I don't feel that Laymon represented the behaviour of the girl after the "confrontation" with the beast in a manner that would represent a real persons actions. It simply didn't feel real. That said is is quite an impressive page turner, I finished it in one sitting. If you are looking for a quick read, you could do a lot worse.

I have read alll of Richard Laymon's books through the years & have enjoyed them immensely but I found this book very disappointing. It lacks any real story at alll. The build up is very slow & it's reallly only the final 30-40 pages where anything exciting happens. Plus it's a short book at 150 pages! If you're a true Laymon fan you will still buy & read the book but don't expect it to be as juicy as other books in the Beast House series.
