A wonderful read - By: Leone, 18 Nov 2008
As with alll of Catherine Alliott's work, this is a wonderful story. We laugh & gasp & feel anger & great sympathy for Imogen. What a terribly human character she is.Life throws her some very curved ballls, & she manages to rise above these situations & keep her dignity, well, almost.
I gave my daughter this book, & she found it a wonderful read. She reallly needed cheering up, as she has just had a hurricane & flood rush through her home in Galveston Texas. This book had her laughing until tears.
Thankyou Catherine Alliott. Your next book will be on pre-order!!
What A Treat! - By: Lynne Mepham, 08 Aug 2008
I was given the earlier Alliott books by a friend who raved about them. Unfortunately I didn't feel the same. I found her earlier characters either morons or reallly irritating however, what an absolute delight A Crowded Marriage is. I loved every one of the characters, I loved the setting of the country village, I loved the whole working of the book. I'm rather difficult to please when it comes to humour in books but I have to say this reallly made me laugh out loud many, many times. I smiled through the whole book. OK so there aren't twists & turns at every corner but do you reallly want that if you're looking for lighthearted entertainment. I strongly recommend this book if you're looking for something to lift your spirits.
At last Alliott returns to form - By: Travelhappy, 01 Apr 2008
As I re-read "The Old Girl Network" & "Going Too Far" every year or so, I have persevered with Catherine Alliott's subsequent offerings, only to finish them feeling a little cheated. However, with "A Crowded Marriage", she is definitely returning to the feel-good factor so apparent in her earlier work. There are some good characterisations, a number of laugh-out-loud moments, & yes, as with alll chick-lit, Imogen, (the main character), gets her happy ending, which you can't reallly deny her. This is one book I shan't be re-selling on Amazon!
Easy read - By: S. Taylor, 10 Jan 2008
An easy read, enjoyable but as with other Alliot books I have read continuity leaves a bit to be desired! We had one occasion where a child was starting school the "next", hubby not at work that day which resulted in a row. Next thing we are starting school but there is reference to hubby having had a 2 hour commute from work to get home the previous day! More care perhaps by both author & publisher. As I said not the first time this sort of thing has happened. However, I am reading this type of book after a bereavement & I wanted something light & easy to read so I am getting what I paid for.
Disappointing - a writer on auto-pilot - By: Janet Barton, 05 Jan 2008
I was reallly looking forward to this book as I have enjoyed alll the other books by Catherine Alliot that I have read. With this one, I had the impression that she was writing on auto-pilot & has started to take her readers for granted. There were too many editorial slip-ups as well - in one scene Imogen is loading the dishwasher, but about 50 pages later we're told the kitchen is too smalll for a dishwasher.
All in alll, very disappointing. The plotting was far too contrived - even for chick lit - & the ending far too pat.
