friendship, disappointments and love - By: S. YALCINKAYA, 06 Dec 2004
I must admit that Shelia O'Flanagan is a fantastic author. I wanted to give four & a half stars, because some parts were relatively slow.
I must emphasize that the storyline is nothing fancy or deep. As a matter of fact "Dreaming of a stranger" is a pleasant book about ordinary characters. The story starts in 1981 & goes to 1994 with a song name (selections from top songs lists) regarding each chapter. You will find pieces from real lives, however they are not trivia, just the reality...
Great friendship, love, marriage, motherhood, betrayal, divorce & again finding true love... Sounds boring but astonishingly well-written. Another example showing that Irish writes it better!
It was an excellent read, & I enjoyed it alll the way through. Well worth the time, I will definitely be reading more by this author in the future!

Accept it for what it is... and it's a pretty good read! - By: , 23 Mar 2004
No, this isn't a particularly deep & meaningful book. You will not find the answers to life's big questions, nor will it get you pondering the hidden meanings of the story or the depth of the characters. However if that is what you are seeking, I doubt this book would be top of your list. What this book does provide, is a few hours of pleasant escapism & a sense of hopefulness for those few romantics left out there. It's a nice story, capably written, although the length of time it covers did have me checking the dates given at the start of the chapter just to know how much time has actuallly passed. It's the first Sheila O'Flanagan I've read & much as I wanted to dismiss it as just more chick lit, I have to say it's a good read, although not something you'd read over & over. Take it on holiday, enjoy & then pass it on.

Worth reading..... - By: , 07 Mar 2004
Although I am a massive fan of O'Flanagan, it took me a while to warm to the characters in this novel. Not as good as "My Favourite Goodbye" or "Suddenly Single" - but still worth reading......
