This has to be the best Sven Hassel novel. Having said that it's also his most bloody. His series of short stories of Tiny, Porta, the Old Man, the Legionnaire & the rest fighting on the Eastern Front will keep you up at night. If you like to put a book down & forget it then this is not something you should read, the stories will get into your head & never leave you. I should know I've read this multiple times over the last 15 years since I first picked up a copy of it.
