This is at times highly entertaining although it lacks some of the acidity that he was renowned for. It appears at times, & when it does it sparkles like magic, but for the most, the comments are fairly muted - perhaps he was more thoughtful in prose than in spoken word. But you do get a wonderful picture of a self-obsessed, vain actor who was one of the greatest this country has ever produced. It is less insightful than say the Kenneth Williams diaries - obviously because one is a diary & the other letters, but worth a read, particulalry the early years.
