Great book, needs an update but the principle still very valid - By: C. Mitchell, 19 May 2008
The original American version published over a decade ago changed the way I thought about personal finance & I recently bought this UK version to update myself. It's written in a friendly easy to understand manner & will remind you why banks & insurance companies alll have large glamorous buildings. Bring your finances under your own control, read this book.

I'd have given it 5 stars if it had been updated in the last year or two, but most of the theory still holds good.
Good but contradictory - By: O. Luke, 26 May 2007
As promised this book, is simple clear & easy to follow. It strips bear the world of personal finance & alllows you to take control of things for yourself. The confusion for me is that it directly contradicts an earlier book from the Motley Fool Team. I have followed `how to make your child a millionaire' & this book actuallly advises against some of the strategies that `how to make your child a millionaire' teaches.
Make Yourself Rich - By: Mr. Richard Hirst, 17 May 2007
Quite simply this book is brilliant. It is one of those rare works that makes you want to act now.It is easy & exciting to read; the information contained is very simple to understand. You can live without a pension. The plan works. It would be difficult to walk away from this title without investing for your future. If you only read one book in this lifetime, make it this one. To the Authors- I thank you!

Stevieboz - sensible finances and a great read! - By: Stevieboz, 11 Mar 2007
Why couldnt I have had something like this years ago, it could have save me so many problems with my own finances!
this reallly blows the lid of those friendly people who sell you pensions, investments, & open your eyes to our old favourites the banks, & pretty much alll the financial concerns.
Please read this before making any financial commitments, even the fools website is reallly good!
A good overview, now due for the next edition - By: Glen I. Downton, 05 Nov 2006
The authors of this book are unashamed Douglas Adams fans. If Adams had written an investment guide, however, he would have used less verbage. The book is an excellent primer on the UK equities scene. It is targeted at people who have previously considered this as alll too hard, so a fairly dry topic is lathered in liberal doses of British humour. Sometimes too much humour, as they authors often take a while to get to, or return to, the point.

The authors views are strongly share-centric, rather than property centric, & they give a very broad treatment to various UK investment vehicles. Their overalll strategy is long-term hold-and-keep, rather than shorter term trading. More of the book is dedicated to describing which investments to avoid, & why, rather than what to go for. This, combined with the books age (4 years old as this review is written), means that for detailed & up-to-date information, the reader will need to find other sources. Admittedly, the Fool website is an excellent starting point.

In summary, excellent overview, a bit wordy, & by now in need of a followup edition.
