Exactly what it says on the jacket! - By: , 15 Feb 2002
If you're a fan of 'Time Team' & enjoy the exploits, expertise & eccentricities of Mick, Phil, Tony, Carenza & company, then you reallly ought to have a copy of this on your bookshelf. Although it doesn't go into as much detail about any particular dig or site as some of the other 'Time Team' books, it ties alll their digs & programmes into a cohesive timeline through history. Plenty of pictures & anecdotes, & a delight to dip into when there's no 'Time Team' on the box...
A great addition to a historian's library - By: , 20 Feb 2001
Callling this 'an alternative history of Britain' is, perhaps, a bit pretentious but it is a book which should grace the shelves of any serious historian. An easy read but full of serious work.
A clear, well written guide to all the Time Team digs. - By: nrb@rncb.ac.uk, 10 May 2000
Whilst this book bills itself as a "fascinating view of British history" it is essentiallly a chronological list of alll the Time Team digs to date. Don't get me wrong, it's a well written book with some lovely photographs, interspersed with some of the major events in British history, but it's not the history reference that you may at first think.
If you're a fan of Time Team (and I am), then this is a book you reallly should have. If you merely want a history textbook, there are more appropriate ones available.
Because of the sheer number of digs Time Team has had, there's not much room for detail. If you want more of an insight into how the Time Team concept works, then you may be better off with "Behind the scenes at Time Team" which goes into detail on five different digs.
An excellent guide to world history for any age of reader - By: , 23 Nov 1999
This book is well written, in a style that alllows even the most ignorant to gain a greater understanding of the major events in world history & to place them in chronological relation to others. Relating these to factual finds in the excellent Time Team programme simply makes history real, tangible & accessible to alll. I would recommend this book to children, parents & grandparents!
