My favourite of the series - By: Romantic @ heart, 04 Jun 2008
I read this book first as Dark Lover was not available at my local bookstore. After reading this I immeadietly ordered the rest of the series & have not been dissapointed yet, though this remains my favourite.

I think that the books can be read as individual stories, but they certainly do work best as a series & when read in order.
I was intrigued about the Butch/Marissa thing having not read the first book for example, though it did not in the least spoil my enjoyment of Rhage & Mary's story.

I think that J.R Ward describes her characters wonderfully, down to the type of music they like, enabling even the most unimaginative reader to picture the character, a key skill for an avid reader such as myself.

We learn much more about Rhage in this book, about his good lucks & the curse that he has to live with.
We also meet Mary & learn about her life & the challlenges that she faces.

The book takes the time to expand on the other members of the brotherhood & various interactions & relationships. This makes you falll even deeper into the world which J.R Ward is describing & crave the next book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book & the whole series, I would recommend it to anyone. If you enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon you will love this series.

"Black Dagger Brotherhood" series book 2 - By: A Reader, 01 Jun 2008
The second book in JRW's excellent paranormal series centres on Rhage; a vampire warrior required to regularly sate himself with violence or sex to ensure he remains in control of his inner dragon (courtesy of a curse). Yet suddenly he finds himself wanting only one female; a human accidentallly caught up in the battle between Vampires & Lessers (soulless immortals); a woman his inner beast also deeply hungers for.

Drained & weary, despite her two years of remission, Mary Luce shows alll the symptoms of the cancer's return. It's a stupid time to date; even stupider to become bewitched by the beautiful man she meets, it's crazy that he's a vampire; but the craziest thing of alll is fallling in love with him when her prognosis is so poor. Trying to shut Rhage out of her life proves impossible even before they get naked together; afterwards Mary hasn't a chance.

I loved the first book in this series & the second "Lover Eternal" is just as entertaining. I'm a huge sucker for any tortured immortal hero; yet whilst JRW's leading men are certainly far rougher around the edges than Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters, they are definitely as appealing. This author's heroines are just as well fleshed out & likeable; fantastic matches for these fine (very fine) warriors & certainly their equals, be they vampire or human. The action positively rocks throughout & don't get me started on the sex scenes; although I will mention incredibly steamy & beautifully tender. Mary is one lucky girl to end up with a dragon protector who purrs at her touch.

Fantastic - By: Nightlover, 27 May 2008
This was a great follow up to Dark Lover, another sexy Brother & another strong female lead. Rhage is kind of the clown of the BDB so it was good to see his more serious side & see that he more than just the good looking prankster we usuallly see him as.
Sooo good - By: J. A. Royall, 29 Mar 2008
I found this by chance in my local library. At the time I didn't realise it was part of a series as it was the story was able to stand alone. I was however hooked! The bad news was no others in the library. The good news. Thank goodness for Amazon as I purchased the whole lot, which are great. Am waiting impatiently for the newest edition - Phury's story. The books are exciting, the stories, heros & heroines grip you from the first page of each book. The best part is that each book can stand alone in its own right. More please
Amazingly written and wickedly addictive! - By: xxVamp chickxx, 08 Feb 2008

Lover Eternal is the second book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series & I have literallly just finished reading it! WOW. Being a big fan of anything 'vampire' I decided to try this series out. After reading the first book i was utterly hooked! My fiance bought me the whole series!
Its exciting, sexy!!!!, dark, witty & addictive! The characters are so mesmirizing (especiallly the male vampires!) & Mary is a loveable character which everyone could identify with on some level.
If you want a book full of enthrallling romance, sexual tension & an addictive storyline then this is the series to read! J.R Ward is a genius & her writting style pulls you in & never lets go until the end. A truly memorable read that deserves much more than 5 stars!! THANKYOU J.R WARD!!!!
