Undead And Unwed - By: James Prouten, 17 Aug 2008
I'm a huge fan of vampire literature & come across this book recommend through the internet!! I had just finished reading "Night Watch" & wanted to read something a bit more light-hearted!

- No Spoilers -

The story is about Betsy "Elizabeth" Taylor who just had the worse day off her life to wake up in a coffin in a funeral home after being killed! After adjusting to being dead we discovered that Betsy is a vampire & is destined to become the Queen of Vampires!

Throughout the book we are introduced to characters such as Betsy friends & the other vampires which include a bunch of bad ones & good ones. The book is taken from first character point of view! Betsy is a fun loving character who is vain & loves shoes! She is a cross between Carrie Bradshaw & Buffy Summers for me!

The supporting characters are great especiallly her best friend Jess is very funny & roommate Eric. The vampires in the novel are great too - The author reallly pokes fun at the vampire genre which I reallly enjoyed!

What I liked about this book is that it doesn't take itself too serious at alll! It's a light-hearted read without being to complex but good enough to keep reading without getting boring! The only reason I have chosen to give the book 4 stars & not 5 because even though the book is fun & funny - it's the plot it starts out great but I felt the end was a bit thin the author builds up the excitement for this great final & then it was kind over & done with in a page or two!

My only other criticism is that throughout the story there seems to be bits & place where random events happen which don't tie within the main story! I felt the where use to bump up the amount of pages!

Overalll I enjoyed this book & highly would recommend if you are a fan of the vampire genre, wanted something fun & light to read & liked chick-lit! This book is great in the sense it mixes sci-fi & chick lit well together it's the right balance of chick-lit & sci-fi!

I would also recommend it to fans of the Charlaine Harris- Sookie Stackhouse's Southern Vampire Mysteries or Michele Bardsley - Broken Heart Vampire Series! Or if you have enjoyed this book to check them two series out as well.

The author herself Mary Jane Dickson - this is the first book I have read of hers & I was impressed she reallly funny writer & I will be reading the rest of the undead series for sure! I don't think she is the best author of the vampire genre but she not trying to be but she is one of the funniest in this genre!

Compare to Charlaine - Sookie Stackhouse character I kind preferred Betsy as I find Sookie a bit too hard on herself & bit of a whinge after awhile! If you like vampire genre but want something more complex or serious I would recommend the Anne Rice series or L.K. Hamilition's Anita Blake series if you want something fun & flirty pick this book up!
Fun, Humour and A Twist of Romance - By: Makayla, 23 Jul 2008
Excellent reading for anybody who's looking for something a little different in their romcoms, or someone who's looking for some light reading to enjoy before bed. I definitely recommend stepping into the crazy, fast-paced, shoe-tinted life of Betsy Taylor
Betsy is the Queen! - By: M. Mason, 22 Jun 2008
This was bought for me as a gift one Christmas from my sister & opened me up to Paranormal romance novels. The Undead series following the exploits of Queen Betsy are highly amusing & well written. If you buy this & like it, I would also recommend Katie Macalister & Michelle Rowan as writers of highly entertaining novels.
Not for younger teenagers! - By: C. L. Wilkins, 18 May 2008
All in alll this is a reasonably entertaining book, about a young woman who wakes to discover to her chagrin that she is not only a vampire, but a vampire in cheap shoes!
Unfortunately the book was sold to me as being suitable for my 13yr old daughter who had just finished the Stephenie Meyer books. By chance, I happened to pick it up & start reading it myself before she did, & I'm glad I did. Be warned! This book is very raunchy in places, & wholly unsuitable for a younger teenager.
WOW - By: Ms. Victoria A. Morgan, 12 Feb 2008
I got given a crappy old book token for xmas & worse there was only a week left before it was useless so I just went & picked up the first book I saw with an interesting title, now I can't get enough of the Undead books. I'm compleatly hooked & can't wait for the next to come out.
