Useful Textbook - By: Alan A. M. Berry, 01 Jun 2007
I bought this book as part of the OU Professional Certificate in Management & found at an excellent resource. It is not the be alll & end alll, & if anyone thinks you can get alll of management science in a single book then you are mistaken. This contains key ideas & concepts & should be used as a first reference. On subsequent courses, where this book was not provided, pupils who didn't posses it were recommended to buy it.
Lacking in detail, somewhat disappointing - By: Mr. A. Spencer, 03 Jan 2007
This book is supposed to support Open University Students who are working towards various business related qualifications, for example the Professional Certificate in Management.
The OU (who publish the book) recommend it as a supporting reference for students, so I duly purchased the book thinking I would get useful information which expanded on the course material sent when signing up to the different modules for the above course. What I got was a book which gives very little information on any of the course topics that they choose to cover. It does give a very broad overview of the chosen topics, but is drasticallly lacking in any detail.
The first few chapters are quite useful for people who haven't studied for a while, advising on the way you learn, & giving help in making the most of your own learning abilities. It also gives some guidance on report preparation & other skills that may be needed in a managerial or supervisory role.
Overalll, I think there are better books available for the majority of the content, but there is some value in helping you to find out how best to go about returning to study.
