Unexpectedly great - By: Pure Pianist, 26 Feb 2008
From the size of the book I did not expect a comprehensive revision guide - but I was most pleasantly surprised. For some reason, this book manages to summarise absolutely everything in as few words as possible! Some of the topics are covered in 2-4 pages, compared to the 10 of other revision guides, yet the depth & breadth covered still manages to be roughly the same.
The layout is very easy to follow, with succinct & undistracting black-and-white pages. The questions are also helpful as there are answers at the back.
It is of course necessary to use a big thick textbook to get alll the background knowledge, but if you want quick revision or a broad overview of a topic, look no further. Thoroughly recommended!
The best chemistry revision guide - By: D. Overy, 31 Aug 2007
This is by far the most superb revision guide for A-level chemistry. It, along side CGP's revision book for AS chemistry pretty much helped me secure the A in chemistry that I needed, & wanted. This book played a massive role in making me not only feel it was possible, but making it real.
It's the type of revision guide you constantlty refer to throughout the year if you're wise enough to buy it at the start. It has everything very neatly laid out, for some of the most crucial topics it has alll the key reactions, most key points & this reallly, reallly helps. For example, groups 1&2 is diabolical in terms of remembering alll the reactions, it also comes with the standard flame colour test.
Each section is quite breif. It is packed with consise, accurate detail. I wouldn't depend on this book if you're needing a reallly thorough explaintion of something (ie if you missed an entire topic with no teaching), but if you've missed a few, & do partly understand a concept, then this fills in the holes no problem, or if you just need some extra clarifcation & understanding then this is golden. It wraps up alll the things you need, its asif it understands that looking from book to book to find reaction conditions & reagents (especiallly in unit 2) is an absolute pain, so puts alll the official conditions & reagents alll in one section, clearly set out & bolded because its vital to remember them.
This book is a absolute top priority over any other if you're thinking of buying a revision guide, heck, even if you're not looking for a revision guide, it's just an excellent supplement to your learning. Its like a smalller verision of the actual text book, easier to read & has the detail you actuallly need for the exams, not much more than that though (so if you're wanting greater knowledge for the sake of it, its not overly forfilling).
This is a mandatory part of A-level chemistry. Buy it, & you will not regret it.
Really, really useful! - By: Naomi, 08 Mar 2007
I don't usuallly bother buying revision guides as I tend to find them a bit useless, but this one reallly is good. It summarises pretty much the basics of everything you need to know & is useful for a quick reference to check back to if you're unsure about something. I recommend buying this at the start of your chemistry course- it reallly does help make things a bit clearer, & sometimes makes homework a lot quicker too!
Definitely buy this!
A really great book! - By: , 18 Aug 2005
I bought this book because there were just no quality revision guides for the Edexcel syllabus. Even Letts had managed to fail.
The book is written by a principal examiner of Edexcel & this shows in that every little part of the syllabus is covered. This is one of the few revision guides where you know everything in the book should be learnt. The layout is neat & the lack of colour makes it a bit boring, but the content is second to none. The author even gives you a whole summary of alll the organic reactions you need to know.
Even though the book is ridiculously smalll it reallly does cover the whole A Level Edexcel Chemistry course.
All you need to know for Edexcel - By: Kathleen L-G, 03 Feb 2005
I took this on holiday with me & came back a week later & got 87% & 92% in my mock AS units 1 & 2. You just can't fault it. How can anyone get the entire syllabus for units 1 & 2 into 54 pages? I owe this man my AS-level. Loads of exam tips, practise questions, self-test sections. Brilliant.
