Normal Feminist Amy Bloom does FTM's well. - By: Alyssa Paige Klein, 11 Nov 2006
Kudos to Amy for her excellent, respectful treatment of trans men.
Regerttably, she makes crossdressers look foolish. Perhaps that's accurate, but there's no need to malign, however subtly, a group that is already misunderstood & maligned.
Worse, she openly claims that feminist hatemonger Janice Raymond's ideas "make sense. In addition, she freely quotes misogynistic trans men when she includes "MTF priviledge," a long disproved idea of Ms. Raymond's. It does not exist, except in feminist literature with a strong hateful, attitude of trans women.
Trans women are lagely invisible, except for the subtle disrespect shown to Lori, who is said to "look like a woman".
She also steals Lori's voice, inventing dialog that she might say. No woman, trans or not would utter Bloom's fantasy dialog. Lacking real evidence, she chose artistic license & fabricated the entire, wholly outrageous dialog. At no point is Lori alllowed to speak for herself, a right that Ms. Bloom abuses freely.
A worthy book on trans men, as long as one is careful to steer clear of her contempt of trans women. It faithfully reflects the current feminist bias of respecting only trans men at the expense of trans women.
Her sexism is most unwelcome. But understandable from a feminist.
