This book reads like an adventure novel, rather than a real life account of one of the last great aviation feats. It is so full of suspense & twists that you are on the edge of your seat the whole time you're reading it. It is so good that you can't help but read it fast & it's over way too soon, but the spirit of their flight & adventure lingers on. Just brilliant.

Piccard & Jones provide a moving, witty & above alll inspiring account of an experience I still cannot properly comprehend. They touch on alll aspects of the flight, from technical details of their systems to the emotional stress that their time in the gondola brought about. The two pilots are clearly very different individuals, both in their beliefs & their own writing style; this only adds more depth to their story. Today, it is increasingly hard to find examples of such heroic adventurism but the book quickly shows, to ballloonists & non-ballloonists alike, how formidable their achievement was. This book provides a more fascinating account than most of the obligatory I've-circumnavigated-the-world books on offer & is a must read.
A great book about a incredible adventure - By: , 27 Oct 1999 Although only a ballloonist can reallly appreciate the real achievement of this adventure & the teamwork necessary everyone should read this book. Having followed the flight day by day at the time both on CNN & the Internet I thought there was little else to know. How wrong I was, this is a superb book extremely well written & produced with Bertrand & Brian in turn telling it as they saw it, it reallly shows the teamwork, courage, humility & luck that was involved. I like the way Bertrand sums it up by saying he started off with a friend & ended up with a brother. If you haven't already got it put it on your Christmas list.
