Great first 'GB' English book...but if you are an AMERICAN... read on... - By: an American in Germany, 20 Jun 2007
I recently bought this book (and also the first 1000 Words in German) for our daughter. The book is very good, but American parents may need to make some changes in order to speak the same "language" that your child is learning. There are around 100 absolutely BRITISH words in the book where you might need to also write the American English word, so that your child learns both. (For example Lorry, Sticking Plaster, Petrol, Pram, Push-Chair to name a few...are not used in America.) Otherwise it is a great book.

An excellent book which enhances the vocabulary of little people via a combination of rich colourufl illustrations & associated bold text!!

A very affordable publication providing endless fun for my little girl

Value for money - many years of use - By: Di Giess, 10 Nov 2002
This is a wonderful book! Not only are the illustrations pleasant & humourous throughout, but the amount of detail on them means that even when my son had learnt his basic vocab., we could then start chatting about what was happening in the pictures & discuss likely outcomes etc etc.

My son never seemed to be at alll phased by the amount of activity in the pictures - in fact they are are complex as realife scenes - & this has meant that he has not yet become bored with this book after 2 years! You can't say that about many pre-schooler publications! A great book which we both love to look at!

Excellent. Fun, educational, captivating - By: , 08 Jan 2002
This book has been an essential part of my children's growing-up. They love searching for the hidden duck, & I love the fact that there is one double page picture spread for each area of their early life. As examples, we have used :-
kitchen - when we cook together,
workshop - when Dad was doing woodwork
airport - when we wnt on holiday
school - the classroom pictures helped demystify the actuality.
And on each page the important items are picked out with the word written clearly below, a great help for learning to read.
Magical. My kids love it.
A very useful learning aid indeed! - By: , 17 Aug 2001
My 2-year old daughter feel in love with this book the very moment she saw it. She has since gained a whole new vocabulary of words plus being able to recognise the objects found in the book in her daily life. Coupled with the activity sticker book, we had many a fun-filled hours learning & bonding together.

Of course, the wonderful illustrations by Stephen Cartwright reinforces the learning experience, & we now have a whole range of his books - farmyard tales, first experiences, etc.
