What a versatile book, one which the primary bookshelf should not be without. The life story of a boy is told through the view through his window & follows the changes to his surroundings. Having no text the book is accessible to alll age groups & abilities, offering plenty of scope for discussion & inspiration in literacy, PHSE, geography & art work.
The pictures are interesting in their media as well as content & they almost leap out of the page at you!! Everytime I 'read' this book I am astounded at the number of new things which I discover in the pictures.

This is a superb book! The illustrations are based on collage & show the view from a bedroom window changing as the room's occupant grows up. Each illustration has many features which can be discussed with a wide age range, starting with very young children through to much older - 11 year olds or beyond. The pages are linked using birthday cards & other features. Outside the window, the environment is graduallly spoilt by progress. Despite the fact that there are no words, strong emotions are involved.
Provides endless discussion, a beautiful book. - By: , 16 Jun 2001
I used this book in the classroom with Year 1 pupils- (it would have been even better as a Big Book.) The children were enthrallled & the geographical & citizenship issues just flowed. I liked it so much that I now have a copy at home which my own children thoroughly enjoy.
An absolutely delightful book! - By: , 11 Feb 2000
This book was a delight; no words, just pictures, but they say it alll! As you progress through the beautifully illustrated pages, you are treated to a rare glimpse of the same view from one window over a period of more than twenty years. The changes that you witness hit you right in the heart! This book appeals to children, teenagers, & adults alike. It is an excellent discussion point, & I have used it as a classroom resource as well as a book for my own pleasure. A beautiful book with a truly poignant message!
