A 10 star read from GS - By: A Reader, 12 Jun 2006
Although dubbed the sequel to "Awaken Me Darkly" this book can easily stand on its own. Like its prequel, "Enslave Me Sweetly" is written in the first person & this time our heroine is Eden F Black (watch out for what the F stands for *smile*). Unlike Mia Snow, the heroine from "Awaken Me Darkly", Eden isn't an AIR (Alien Investigation & Removal) agent, she's something far deadlier! She is also a Raka, a golden alien orphaned as a child & raised by Michael Black, a powerful & wealthy human. Although illegallly hunted for the harvest of their coveted golden hair & skin, the increasingly rare Raka are universallly considered a peace loving & sensual race. Eden F Black is not a typical Raka! A highly competent assassin, she is on a mission to infiltrate a human trafficking organisation & kill its leader EenLi, an alien slave trader who revels in the pain & degradation he inflicts on the humans he catches & sells off world. Unfortunately she is teamed with another agent, Lucius Adair, a man who interests her far more than he should. Lucius in turn finds himself dealing with a highly skilled woman, not the pampered daughter of a rich man he expected. Concocting a plan, Lucius goes under cover & places an "order" for Eden. Their plan works perfectly & Eden is abducted; yet despite her tracking device & Lucius's best attempts to purchase her, Eden finds herself whisked to the planet Targon. Now considered the possession of King Devyn, a hedonistic & spoilt man, escape off planet appears difficult with no knowledge of the workings of inter planet portals. Unfortunately King Devyn also happens to be the most powerful kinetic warrior on his planet & a male very much determined to sample every race of woman, including a prized Raka.

Like Mia Snow in "Awaken Me Darkly", Eden Black is a marvellous leading lady. Passionate & deadly, I loved the fact she even managed to get in some subtle blows against her kidnappers whilst under the guise of unconsciousness. This woman is absolutely lethal; able to slit a throat in a heart beat, she certainly holds her own against a Targon, considered the most feared of warrior races to contact Earth. Imagine La Femme Nikita coated in gold, but with better guns, one liners & fighting skills. Oh & let's not forget that handy ability Eden has to leave her body & spirit walk.

Gena Showalter writes absolutely mesmerising romance, no matter which genre she turns her hand to. I sat down & read this book in a couple of hours, & now wish I'd taken my time to savour it. With colourful alien races galore, a multitude of mind powers, its gripping story line, passionate leading lovers & quirky humour (Lucius's real name is what! LOL), settle down & firmly enjoy the futuristic world GS has created. With the release of two further "Alien Huntress" books in 2007, I'm sure this series will continue to enthral readers & garner an ever increasing fan base. I can only add if you enjoyed "Awaken Me Darkly" you'll love this book even more!
