Absolutely brilliant - By: crime reader, 28 Aug 2008
This is the second book I have read by Sarah Rayne & I would just like to say that she has now become my new favourite author. I absolutely loved this book. It is totallly engrossing, from the modern plotline with the hilariously prim Edmund to the wonderful tales of the past. I love the fact that Sarah Rayne writes these thrillers but there's a touch of humour in there as well. I didn't want to put it down at alll. Fantastic.
The only problem with reading such a great book is that everything else fallls flat afterwards, though I can't wait to read her others.

I bought this book looking for someting different. I liked the book, it is well written & to start with I was fascinated by the conjoined twins & would have loved to know more about them & how they coped with being separated.
I could say a lot about this book, obviously one I would recommend because it made me think a lot.
Read it for youreself.. you may like it or not, but it is easy to read & makes you think.l..
ADMITTEDLY A LOT OF `COINCIDENCES` AND `HARD TO BELIEVE` BITS.. - By: Leeds lass, 04 Jul 2008
and a part of me reallly did want to rip this book to bits & scream -
` THIS COULD NEVER HAPPEN IN A MILLION YEARS - DO YOU THINK WE`RE STUPID ??? !!!` - but it was just so enjoyable & the twists & turns kept me riveted right up to the end ! I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though a lot of it was the most ridiculous make-believe i`ve read in a long time. It was......let`s say `different` - & i will certainly be reading more of sarah rayne. ( Well come on - it`s just a novel - not like she`s trying to pass it off as a true story is it..? )
Excellent! - By: Helen Witts, 26 Jun 2008
Bought this book on impulse in a cheap bookstore & it was marked down to £2. Didn't have time to go to one of the big bookshops in town & I can't be without something to read!
What a book!
Could not put it down from the first page. I din't see any of the twists & turns coming.Totallly compelling - dont miss it.
guilty pleasure - By: Vm Postlethwaite, 26 Jan 2008
I feel guilty about enjoying this implausible pot-boiler, but I couldn't put it down after an initiallly slow start. Seriously, would a concentration camp commandant have been active in English business after the war?
Lots of cliches, but a ripping yarn.
