Enjoyable read - By: K. kirkland, 05 Jan 2007
A no nonsense book that cut through alll the mullarkey & got straight to the point. Some of these manuals just get too technical so this was refreshingly different. I always want to do a particular thing, & very often that particular thing has been given a name (by a so callled professional expert) that bears no resemblance to that thing. I think they do it to stop us "knuckle-draggers" from learning their secret, which is that it is a total doddle "when you know how". So it was nice to see that everything was laid out in easy to follow linear fashion & in easily digestible bite-sized chunks. This book is the right size for the topics it covers. No point in buying a 5 kilo tome full of NASA Shuttle speak when you could have this.
Could do without the jokes - By: F. DE GROENE, 14 Aug 2005
Basicallly this is a very good book, which indeed (as the author suggests) is about editing digital pictures, & not about what equipment to use, or which printer to buy. Very practical! What is annoying though, are the continuous efforts of the author to include humorous remarks in the text, in between alll the useful information. It irritated me more than once. Could be that I, being Dutch, have a different sense of humour, but I like these kind of books to be written in a clear, factual manner.
Nevertheless, one of the best books I have seen on this subject!
Sublime book with a catch - By: , 22 Mar 2005
I bought this book a month ago & can only say that I've been blown right from the beginning! It's an amazing wellwritten book that cuts alll the crap & tells how to do things the right way to make your photo editing succesfull from the start! I can only recommend this book to any novice photographer who wants to learn how to edit digital photos on their computer.
The only annoying hitch about this book is the authors sometimes ridiculous way of wasting his readers time by fooling around - & that's sad because it's otherwise a well written book. He often spends too much time joking & that is a waste of the reader's time & ink. Cut alll the fooling around away & the book would get 5 stars from me.
Otherwise I can only recommend this book.
Best so Far - By: Aidy Neal, 11 Mar 2005
As said above, this is a must have book, been working through it since Christmas 04. I have been a filmie for many years having & using a darkroom & using Photoshop more as a plaything until I bought this book & now digital is 50% of my photography, Scott seems to nurse you through the topics with ease & makes it so simple, within the first 80 pages I had learnt so more about Photoshop, so if your starting or pro I feel there will be something to learn. Full marks to Scott for this book
A Must Buy For Photographers - By: , 13 Jan 2005
This is the first time I have been moved to write a review but I felt I had to promote this book. If you are a digital photographer & you use Photoshop then you have to buy this book. If you would rather be out taking photographs than stuck at a PC then buy this book. The tutorials are written by a real user with a sharp wit & great turn of phrase & best of alll they produce startlingly good results with the minimum of effort. This is not a book for geeks or people who want to create great photos this is a book for people who want to take great photos & make the best of them.
