A newbies installation guide - By: David Hunter, 13 Mar 2006
Everyone is a newbie when it comes to new software, so don't be afraid to admit it- even the so callled "experts" have to learn & it's usuallly from a book. I'm not convinced that you can just installl & run software without a helping hand.
This book is that helping hand.

This is the best book on SBS2003 that you could have on your desk.

Having previously struggled with Windows2000 Server Training Guide - Sams Teach Yourself Windows 2000 Server - Mastering Exchange 2000 Server - Administering Exchange 2000 Server - & various other so callled guides, it was refreshing to actuallly pick up a book which explained everything on what was to me a new operating system, clearly & in order.

OK, so everything did not work first time, but that was my fault for trying to be clever in my hurry to get the system up & running & just heading for the bits that I thought I needed to know. I soon discovered that if you take the book from Page 1 & follow it through, step by step, there's no problem in getting everything to work properly.

Over the last few weeks I've ben trying out the OS alternatives of Suse Linux 10 & Ubuntu server - but going back to basics of typing in command lines is not my idea of an easy life.

I'm now confident enough, thanks to this book, to installl SBS to one of our clients who has kindly agreed to be my test bed.

No doubt I'll need to refer to the book again, but I'm pretty sure the answer will be there .

Provides a basic overview, but nothing more - By: , 15 Sep 2005
I bought this book after I installled SBS 2003 premium in a non-demanding, non-operating enviroment; which gave me a week to 'play' with the server settings before I read the book.
To be honest there was nothinh in it that you can't find out by having a wonder around SBS. SBS was designed to be simple, & it is! It's alll pretty self explanitory, with wizards & detailed help files. So for em the book provided a few pointers & nothing more.

However if you were installling SBS for the first time in a rushed or pressured situation, & wanted to do things 'by the book' then this perfect. Step by step guides, full instructions that would get you up & running quickly. perfect for the first time installler, or novice.

For the CD (if you get one) its a bit pointless, apart from the e-book there's not alot else! Or atleast nothing you can't find on Microsoft.com.

Windows Small Business Server 2003 - C Russell - By: Mr P Cram, 20 Jan 2005
I was disappointed with this book. Whilst it provides a guide to installling Smalll business server it does not reallly add to the information on Microsofts web site. There are a smalll number of helpful pointers but the book rather skims the topic rather than providing true insight which helps you to troubleshoot or leverage the power of the system.
Should you ? Shouldn't You - By: L. Kerjenski, 22 Apr 2004
As a Novell & Linux Server specialist I have been searching for a bookthat will take me from start to finish with Microsofts latest serversoftware & this book is it. The book brings details & pieces of infoto the front that are useful. So far I am half way through the book andalready I have a testing server doing most of the things I want, runningGroup Policy, Active Directory, Roaming Profiles etc.
Not a greatread, but when has a computer book been a great read, but content andpurpose is second to none.
I fully recommend & not to expensiveeither.
Windows Small Business Server 2003 - C Russell - By: , 21 Apr 2004
Having performed a couple of SBS 2000 installlations using HarryBerelsfords "Smalll Business Server 2000 Best Practices" (the book thateveryone seems to recommend for SBS 2000) as the reference guide I wasrecently asked to installl SBS 2003 on a new network. I thought I hadbetter play safe & order Charlie Russells book as I was unsure how muchSBS 2003 had changed.
This book has turned out to be a very good buy. It maintains a goodbalance between being easy to read yet having enough technical detail togive you confidence if something goes wrong. I rate this book as good asor even better than Berelsfords book.
If you are looking for detailed technical information about DHCP, DNS etcthen you will probably need another book like Minasi's Mastering WindowsServer 2003. However, as an SBS administrator this will prabably beunlikely. However, the two books do compliment each other well.
Although the installlation process went reasonably smoothly I found myselfconstantly dipping into the book to check out various issues, so it gotused a great deal. Plus; the book comes with a companion CD on which is anelectronic, searchable copy of the whole book. So, alll in alll a good buy.
